eBay Fee Calculator
Enter what your item sold for and see exactly what eBay takes and what lands in your account. The fee applies to shipping as well as the item price, which is the part most sellers get wrong.
What the fee is actually charged on
The final value fee is calculated on the item price plus the shipping the buyer paid, not the item price alone.
This is the single most common miscalculation. Offering "free shipping" does not avoid the fee — the shipping cost is simply built into your price, and eBay charges the percentage on the whole amount either way. A $50 item with $10 shipping and a $60 item with free shipping produce identical fees.
Sales tax is the exception. eBay collects and remits marketplace facilitator tax on your behalf, and it is not part of the fee base.
The current fee structure
For most categories the final value fee is 13.6% on the total sale amount up to $7,500 per item, with anything above that portion charged at a much lower rate. On top of that there is a per-order fee of $0.40, or $0.30 when the order total is $10 or less.
Some categories differ significantly. Books, movies and music run higher at 15.3%. Guitars and basses are 6.7%, and heavy equipment is only 3%. Select the right category — on a $500 sale the difference between 13.6% and 6.7% is $34.
Store subscribers receive a modest reduction in many categories. This calculator applies a conservative estimate; check your own fee summary for the exact rate on your subscription tier.
The fees that quietly add up
Promoted Listings are charged as a percentage of the sold price, on top of everything else, whenever a buyer arrives through the ad. Sellers often set an ad rate once and forget it is compounding with the final value fee. At a 5% ad rate on a 13.6% category, you are handing over 18.6% before the per-order fee.
International sales add 1.65%.
Below standard seller status adds a 6% surcharge. If your defect rate or late shipment rate crosses eBay's threshold, this applies to every sale until you recover — which turns a thin-margin business into a losing one very quickly. Check your seller dashboard rather than assuming.
Insertion fees are $0.35 per listing after your free allotment, currently 250 listings a month without a store. These are charged whether or not the item sells, so a large unsold inventory has a real monthly cost.
Reading the result
The "eBay keeps" percentage is the number worth watching. On a typical sale it lands somewhere between 14% and 16%, but with promoted listings and an international buyer it can exceed 20%.

Frequently asked questions
How much does eBay take from a sale?
For most categories the final value fee is 13.6% of the item price plus shipping, plus a $0.40 per-order fee ($0.30 if the order is $10 or less). In practice most sellers see 14 to 16 percent of the total, and more if they use Promoted Listings or sell internationally.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The final value fee applies to the item price plus whatever shipping the buyer paid. Offering free shipping does not avoid this, since the cost simply moves into your item price and the fee is charged on the total either way. Sales tax is excluded from the fee base.
How many free listings does eBay give?
Sellers without a store subscription currently get 250 free listings per month. Beyond that, insertion fees are $0.35 per listing and are charged whether or not the item sells. Store subscriptions include larger allotments.
What is the below standard seller surcharge?
If your defect rate or late shipment rate exceeds eBay's thresholds, your account is rated below standard and a 6% surcharge is added to your final value fees on every sale. It applies until your metrics recover, so check your seller dashboard rather than assuming your account is fine.
Do Promoted Listings fees stack with the final value fee?
Yes. The ad fee is charged on the sold price in addition to the final value fee whenever a buyer comes through the promotion. A 5% ad rate in a 13.6% category means 18.6% before the per-order fee, which is why ad rates deserve regular review.
